WARM DAYS - GRAY SKIES - PAPAYA & WATERMELON

The sky is light gray today but the temp is warm and the sea is calm. This is a good time to enjoy the flat ocean and not worry about sunburn or our upside down economy.

The real estate market is in bad shape but Hollywood Commisioner, Patty Asseff, pushed through approval on her pet project. Yes, it is a 20 plus story building planned to tower above the south east side of Young Circle. Who will fill it? because the other new buildings in the area still stand empty.

The city budget isn't lean but here is a tasty salad that is.

PAPAYA & WATERMELON SALAD

Green papaya – ¾ pound – cut into 1” squares
Watermelon – ¾ pound – cut into 1 ½ inch squares
Hass avocado – peeled and cut into 1 inch squares or tsp scoops
Mixed green salad mixture – 3 big handfuls
Black pepper – fresh ground
Kosher salt

Dressing

Dry Vermouth – 1 ounce
Lime juice – 3 ounces
Olive oil – 2 ounces

In a large bowl put 3 big handfuls of mixed greens. Add the squares of Green Papaya and seedless Watermelon and Avocado. Fold in.

Whisk the dressing ingredients together. And drizzle into the salad and toss lightly. Then sprinkle with Kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste.

Serve with crusty fresh bread chunks, and chilled dry wine.
